NEXT AUDITIONS MY FRIEND MISS FLINT My Friend Miss Flint is a very funny play set in modern day London. Tom, a celebrity TV gardening expert is happy for his ex wife, Sarah (an accountant), to continue to do his tazes. But when he finds out that Sarah has invented a PA named Joanna Flint as a tax write-off, and that a tax inspector named Mr Dodds is coming round to investigate, Tom is less than pleased! His house cleaner, Albert, an old rogue who delights in throwing in totally unhelpful suggestions, helps Tom and Sarah come up with a scheme to foil the tax man. However, things get complicated when Tom's new girlfriend Lucy (whom he met only the night before) decides to pose as the elusive Miss Flint herself. Then all hell breaks loose when another tax inspector, the formidible Cynthia Lens arrives and declares that Dodds himself is not only an imposter but her ex hnusband! Everything sorts itself in the end once we learn that Lucy is not all who she appears to be... I will be looking for actors with good comic timing. The play is set in London, so English accents are required, although the only one which needs to be really strong will be Albert (Cockney). With the exception of Lucy, which is a smaller role, the other five roles can all be considered lead roles as the dialogue is evenly shared between them. Any questions, please contact David Hines on 0418 299 241or by e-mail . CHARACTERS Sarah: 35 - 50 (to match Tom). Sarah is more practical than Tom, and has continued to act as his accountant after they have divorced. Likeable and easy going she is also a woman who knows what she wants. Mild English accent. Albert: 50 - 70. Albert is an old rogue, a part time entertainer with a colourful past who does some house cleaning on the side. Albert has the bulk of the laughs in this play and the actor will need to be able to deliver comedic lines in a deadpan manner and make them funny. Accent is cockney, working class. Mr Dodds: 35 - 60. Mr Dodds is the archetypal tax inspector. Dry and calculating, seemingly without a humourous bone in his body. He is interested only in the taxation system and ensuring fraudsters are caught out. Later in the play we discover he himself is a fraud, but his initial character must be the dry crusty civil servant we all abhor. Precise English accent, slowly and quietly spoken. Cynthia Lens: 35 - 60 (to match Dodds). Cynthia is a truly formidible woman who has risen to the rank of inspector in the tax office through her resolve and determination. She takes no prisoners and brooks no argument. Not a raving beauty but attractive in a professional kind of way. Upper English accent. Lucy Napier: 20 - 30. Young, perky and very atractive. Lucy is a girl who also knows what she wants and usually gets it. She has Tom and most of the other characters wrapped around her little finger but is a thoroughly likeable person at the same time. Mild English accent. Download the audition pieces (PDF): Rehearsals: Begin 11 July 2011 Performance Dates: |
